Legaccio
A university design studio, with the mandated theme of “translation”. The brief to Translate a knot into a building.
The knot chosen is one that has been used for generations in a fundamental tradition of the Veneto region: Grape farming. As the wine brings people together, the knot employed in the binding of vines ties together multiple branches functioning as a guide for their growth. A simple string of Salix Viminalis traditionally provides the possibility of locking together different elements wrapping it around in a visually complicated geometry. These peculiarities drew attention to the potential of this intricate shape. Indeed, transferring the diagram into a building the continuity of the flow provided evidence of the preservation of the essence of the knot. In order to embrace this, the implementation of an oblique plane suits perfectly. The fluid movement allowed by the juxtaposition of oblique planes without any physical obstacle reflects (transparently or precisely) one of the aims of dramatherapy: dissolving barriers. As the therapist try to annihilate these barriers creating a connection with the client to make him feel free to expose and perform; in the designing process, physical barriers will be destroyed giving the possibility to walk throughout the building from one stage to another in total freedom. The therapist-client connection, pivotal in the healing process, is translated in the architecture through the repetition of a module. Thanks to the repetition of frames that provides different momentum, the healing process will surely benefit from the connection with the landscape.
